Two spaces dedicated to the works of John Cage, one for listening, and one for reading are based on Cage’s notion of detachment from our own work; to let the architecture come about as independently as possible. Five large steel frames form a cantilevering roof under which two rooms are formed

The reading room receives only indirect light from a narrow skylight positioned along the western perimeter wall protecting books from UV damage. A free-standing wall separates the introverted book room from the extroverted listening room fronting the panorama Virginia Tech Drillfield with an almost seamless glass wall
